Biggest Meal Planning Mistake

The biggest mistake I’ve made while meal planning:
Planning dinners for every day of the week.
Now, I only plan 3 dinners for the week.
Hear me out, I have been failing (slightly forward) at this for 2 years now 😅
I am embarrassed to share this, but we have wasted so much food over that timeframe.
Things come up.
Some days are so hard that you give into takeout.
Life happens.
What I do now is I plan 3 meals.
I know that Sunday we have family dinner with my in-laws & one day a week my parents will want us to come over for dinner.
So those 3 days I planned, plus 2 dinners with our families already brings us to 5 dinners.
What do we do for the other 2?
We leave room for life, we have leftovers, we use up the food in our freezer, or sometimes we go out to eat.
Sure different seasons of life will change this strategy, but for the season we are in right now & honestly until we build up more discipline & structure this is what we’re sticking to.
I’d rather have to do a mid week grocery run than waste anymore food.
What’s you best meal planning tip?
