“Our necks sometimes seem permanently turned to the side as we look at the lives of others rather than the life before us.” Emily Wilson from Awaken my Heart

Do you ever catch yourself watching someone’s “life” on instagram or even in real life and thinking, “Must be nice…”
Must be nice to have a husband that helps with the cooking and cleaning.
Must be nice to be able to afford a nanny for 5 hours a day so you can work.
Must be nice to have a business that fully supports your family.
Must be nice to have relatives that live nearby & are willing to help.
The grass is always greener right?
Sometimes my neck hurts from turning my head so much to see what everyone else has or is doing. It’s insane. Why am I wasting so much of my time watching her live life at a 10?
First of all, she’s not showing all the sleepless nights, or the fights with her husband (everyone has arguments or fights or frustrations, don’t be fooled!), or the times her baby had a blowout and then spit up all over while she was changing him. So, we are seeing mostly a highlight reel with maybe some of the lowlights sprinkled in.
Second of all, if I want that life so badly I should get my butt off the sidelines and go work for it.
Lastly, and most importantly, have I taken it to God?
Does He even want me to live that life?
Am I appreciating the gifts He’s given me?
Am I recognizing the blessings I already have?
Am I making these people I’m watching my god & treating their words as gospel?
While I was reading Emily Wilson's book Awaken my Heart, I read this quote:
“Our necks sometimes seem permanently turned to the side as we look at the lives of others rather than the life before us.”
And wow it spoke to me!
Go thank God for the gifts He’s already blessed you with, bring your desires and dreams to prayer & create a system for yourself to stop the scroll when you start feeling jealous.
