I never had such a strong respect and appreciation for motherhood until I became a mom.

“If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”
The Gospel of St. John 13:14-15
I never had such a strong respect and appreciation for motherhood until I became a mom.

I never realized how so much of what Jesus calls us to is natural in motherhood.
It is natural to wash your baby.
It is natural to feed your hungry baby.
It is natural to clothe your naked baby.
I used to look at saints, most of whom were priests and men and women in religious orders. I had a skewed perception that it is easier to get to heaven as a sister than it would be as a mom.
Now, I recognize that there is no easy way to Heaven.
Let me say that again. THERE IS NO EASY WAY TO HEAVEN.
Jesus says pick up your cross and follow me, does the cross look easy? No, if you say yes, you’re crazy!

Pick up your cross and follow me.
We all have different crosses. We are called to embrace them and live a bold life proclaiming the gospel (which looks different for everyone).
The cross of motherhood and marriage is not easy. It’s really stinking hard.
Jesus didn’t promise easy tho.
The cross of motherhood and marriage is beautiful and it is filled with Joy when you stay close to Him.
When you remember whose you are.
On this Holy Thursday, I want to remember whose I am and follow the model He gave me. I want to find joy in knowing that I get to be like Jesus, just by doing my beautiful job of being a mom.
